Content Velocity Calculator
Most content teams pick a publishing frequency based on capacity, not goals. This calculator works backwards from your traffic or pipeline target to tell you exactly how many pieces you need — and flags if the target is unrealistic given your current metrics.

How the calculation works
The calculator separates your traffic gap into two components: what compounding growth closes on its own (existing content improving over time) and what must come from new content production.
Pieces needed = Content gap ÷ Average sessions per piece (month 3). The 12-month projection models cumulative growth assuming consistent velocity and compounding.
Input guidance
Sessions per piece
Check your top 10 posts at month 3 in Google Search Console and average them. New site: use 150–300. Established domain: 400–800.
Compounding rate
The monthly % growth from existing content getting older and ranking better. Conservative: 2–3%. Strong SEO programme: 4–6%.
Cost per piece
Include research, writing, editing, design, and internal review time. Typical B2B range: $300–$1,500 per piece.
Target feels out of reach?
The velocity number is often a signal that the target, the strategy, or both need rethinking — not just a bigger team. That’s a strategy conversation.
